A native of South Carolina, Mike enlisted in
the United States Navy in 1967. He entered basic
training at the Naval Training Center, San Diego,
California. Subsequently, he was selected for
specialized training in Basic Underwater Demolition
training in Coronado, California and the Navy's
elite SEAL community.
The
United States Navy Sea, Air and Land (SEAL)
forces are
the elite Special Operations Forces of the U.S.
Navy, employed in unconventional warfare, foreign
internal defense, direct action, Counter-Terrorism,
and special reconnaissance operations.
